Tirupati: The increasing number of Covid-19 cases has made the Chittoor district administration to stand on its toes. Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta has extensively reviewed the situation in Tirupati on Sunday with Ruia Hospital superintendent Dr T Bharathi.

He directed the superintendent to make ready TTD's Srinivasam as the second Covid care centre in Tirupati immediately as the first such centre Sri Padmavati Nilayam was having more than 360 positive patients now.

On priority basis, after Srinivasam, focus will be laid on Vishnu Nivasam for which TTD has already given its nod while Madhavam will be meant for doctors' quarantine only. On this occasion, Dr Bharathi has informed the Collector about the requirement of another RT-PCR machine to get the Covid tests carried out quickly.

The Collector immediately contacted the officials at the Director of Medical Education office and asked them to provide one soon. He also stressed the need to take up intensive campaign on the use of masks and physical distancing.

Earlier, he visited Sri Padmavati Covid care centre also to take stock of the situation there. On the occasion, he stressed the need to provide good food to the patients which is essential in increasing the immunity. He tasted rice and chapathi etc., prepared for the patients and expressed satisfaction.

He asked the special officer of the centre S Lakshmi to make arrangements to get 400 more beds made of cardboard to place them in dormitories. Increasing the number of beds from 400 to 800 is essential in view of the spike in cases during the last one week. He enquired the PG medical students and doctors on their needs.
