Bala box office collection Day 1: Ayushmann Khurrana film has received positive reviews.

Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest release Bala is off to a good start. The Amar Kaushik directorial is a comedy film that deals with the problem of premature baldness. The movie also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Yami Gautam and Saurabh Shukla among others.

Bala is expected to earn Rs 8 to 10 crore on its opening day, according to trade analyst Girish Johar.

Johar told indianexpress.com, “Ayushmann’s films have good tracking. He tries to tap into unconventional cinema and break taboos. Also, Bhumi is a fine, talented actor and she also does meaningful cinema. Thus, I am expecting a good start for Bala at the box office. The film has a fantastic pre-release buzz. The way they have promoted it is quite good. If it works well, I think this will be the 7th consecutive hit of Ayushmann.”

He added, “Ayushmann is doing desi stories which connect with the mass audience. He is breaking taboos in a quirky way which is acceptable to everyone. Everyone wants to watch a film which is light-hearted, clean, family watch and also sends a message. Ayushmann is delivering that. He is the new box office draw.”

Bala released on 3500 screens across the globe, out of which 3000 screens are in India. The film is Ayushmann’s widest release to date.

The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film 3.5 stars. She wrote, “He’s (Ayushmann Khurrana) perfected the art of playing people who are not instantly likeable, and he works the characters’ kinks to the point where we can see them, and yet sympathise. This is an unfiltered, bare performance, unafraid to be seen as ridiculous: this kind of shucking of vanity, even if it is self-aware, is rare amongst Bollywood actors. Bala is human, he is flawed; he is one of us. He makes us smile. So does this delicious line, Kaushik throwing in a politically acute curveball, just like he did in Stree — ‘poora Uttar Pradesh chal raha hai bhagwaan bharose, aur bhi chal jayega’. Or words to that effect.”
