Five-car pileup causes commuter chaos
A FIVE-CAR pileup on the Pacific Motorway on Brisbaneâs southside is causing traffic chaos for commuters this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 3pm to reports of a five-car crash on the Pacific Motorway southbound before the Cornwall St exit, forcing police to close at least one lane.
Traffic Queensland has advised motorists to expect long delays and proceed with caution.
A spokesman from Queensland Ambulance Service said five patients were assessed at the scene, but no one was seriously injured.
Meanwhile, a truck fire on the Bruce Highway at Meridan Plains is also causing headaches.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews responded to the fire in the southbound lanes of the highway at 3.20pm.
When the crews arrived the blaze had already been put out and the firefighters made the scene safe.
However, it still caused traffic delays southbound towards Bells Creek.
Combined with major roadworks and being 200 metres short of the busy Caloundra Rd exit, there were delays for motorists.
Queensland Traffic report shows delays onto Caloundra Rd and banked onto Sunshine Motorway.
Queensland Ambulance Service officers attended but were not required.
