Jaipur: All-women metro and railway stations are now common in Pink City, but the idea of all-women polling stations known as Pink Booths in elections have caught the fancy of people in poll-bound Rajasthan.In a bid to attract more women participation, Election Commission has set up 259 polling stations in 199 constituencies which will be manned by women staff. The booths, however, will be opened for men to cast their votes also.This is a time initiative to have such polling stations, though, the idea was successfully implemented in other states too, including Madhya Pardesh and Meghalaya.These booths will comprise an all-women team for conducting elections like presiding officers, polling officers, micro-observers and security personnel.According to an EC official, total 50 Pink Booths will be established in Jaipur division. As per the plan, one women booth is set up in every constituency, however, there are few big constituencies where more than one such booths are set up.One of such booths also falls under Gandhi Nagar, VIP area in Jaipur, where majority of administrative officers and judges will cast their vote.Rajasthan chief electoral officer Anand Kumar said, All-women booths are part of innovative steps taken by the commission , As Reported By TOI.
According to the Newspaper,District collectors were to set up all women-booths in the areas where more women employees are available, he added.A local at booth level officer (BLO) at Malaviya Nagar said, the booths will be equipped with the drinking water facility while a small play area is also here for children accompanying their mothers, occupied. Moreover, sitting facilities has been provided for pregnant women.Details of booths and candidates from the particular constituency have been displayed outside booths for reference of voters. Toilets have been cleaned and earthen pots and water coolers arranged for voters at the booths..
