UT administration to set up health edu centre

CHANDIGARH: The UT administration is set to house the first health education centre at Government Model High School, Sector 22C, Chandigarh, in association with the Rotary Club, amounting to Rs 2.2 crore.The Chandigarh administration and the Rotary Club signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) for setting up of the centre, which would be one-of-itskind in the country.The Chandigarh administration has decided to setup the centre at the government school in the first phase and later a site would be identified by a committee, comprising representatives of the engineering and architecture departments and the district education officer.It will also work as a centre of excellence and provide basic medical education, health checkup and training.It will be managed by a team of administrative staff, doctors and experts under a society which will have the advisor to the administrator as the chairman, while the home, health, finance and education secretaries of the Chandigarh administration as members along with members from other departments as well as the head of the PGI and two members of the Rotary Club.R K Saboo, former world president of the Rotary International, said the club would spend approximately Rs 2.2 crore (US$ 300,000) for the centre, for which expertise and know how would come from the US-based McMillen Health Centre, located at Fort Wayne, Indiana.A MoU was signed by B L Sharma, secretary education, representing the UT administration, and president of the club, A P Singh, in the presence of Governor of Punjab-cum-UT administrator, V P Singh Badnore, Parimal Rai, advisor to the administrator, and UT I G Sanjay Baniwal.The centre will be equipped with audio-visual means and it will be set up within six months.
