‘Infiltration bids may increase in coming months’

He said there are around 100 militants operating in northern Kashmir, but the overall situation here is better as compared to southern areas of the Valley.

Infiltration bids are likely to increase in coming months as winter is about to start, general officer commanding of army’s 15 corps, lieutenant general AK Bhatt said here Thursday, and asserted that “there will be attempts from across the border to push militants into Kashmir.”

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a volleyball tournament organised at district police lines Baramulla, the GoC said: “As the winter is approaching, there will be attempts of more infiltration bids. We are ready to foil every such attempt.”


He said there are around 100 militants operating in northern Kashmir, but the overall situation here is better as compared to southern areas of the Valley. 

Urging youth to participate in sports activities, Bhatt said that the youth should “use their energy in play grounds.” 

The army and the state government will ensure that youth of Kashmir excel in sports and play not only at the national level but at international level too, he said.
