Hyderabad: Ravichandran Ashwin and Murli Vijay would be the centre of attraction when Dindigul Dragons take on Ruby Trichy Warriors in the season opener of Tamil Nadu Premier League 2018 in Tirunelveli on Wednesday.

Both Vijay and Ashwin have been an important part of the Indian cricket team. They both know each others strengths and weaknesses, and have also played for CSK together.

Dindigul skipper, Ashwin has played an integral part in assembling the squad for the season and will now be hoping to make a match-winning impact for his side on the field.

While he will certainly pose a threat for opposition batsmen with his variety of off-spinners, leg-breaks and googlies, his immense experience and leadership qualities will be as important in nurturing a young Dindigul side.

Meanwhile, there is still uncertainty over M Vijay's availability for Ruby Trichy Warriors after the India opener didn't join the squad on the eve of the clash on Tuesday.

Both Ashwin and Vijay, though, will only be available for the first few games in the TNPL considering their likely inclusion in India's Test squad for the tour of England starting from August

Dindigul coach M Venkataramana praised Ashwin for the all-encompassing role he has played in training in the lead-up to the tournament.

As and when Ashwin leaves, the captaincy duties will fall on the shoulders of Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batsman N Jagadeesan. In addition, he will also have to provide the impetus at the top of the order in a side that is heavily reliant on him and B Anirudh Sita Ram in the batting department.

By Jagadeesan's own admission, his experience of being part of a victorious CSK side in the IPL, albeit from the bench, has done him a world of good and it's up to him now to showcase his spark on the 22 yards.

In the Trichy camp, the onus is on the likes of B Indrajith and seamer Aswin Crist to deliver during the crunch moments. Indrajith, in particular, will be keen to make an impression after being sidelined for a majority of last season due to a shoulder injury.

He has recovered from his injury ahead of the new season and played two matches for Jolly Rovers in the VA Parthasarathy Trophy earlier this month.
