Scholarship for PG in Mathematics: Apply by July 30
Selected students will receive a scholarship of Rs. 6,000/- per month
The Scholarship: Selected students will receive a scholarship of Rs. 6,000/- per month, during the two year period of the Post-graduate programme. The scholarships are sanctioned for one year at a time and are renewable at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress. Students selected for the award of the scholarship when in the final year of the M.A/M.Sc or five-year integrated M.Sc. program will receive their scholarship for only one year. To avail of the scholarship, students have to be enrolled in a recognized post-graduate programme in mathematics in India. The scholarship will be disbursed through the institution they join.
Eligibility: Applicants should be students holding a first class B.A/B.Sc degree in Mathematics or holding a B.A (Hons.)/B.Sc (Hons.) degree in Mathematics with at least a second class. Those in the final year of the B.A/B.Sc programme expecting to complete the course by July 2018 with a first class or with a second class, in case of an Honours program, students with a good academic record who have already completed, or expect to complete by July 2018, one year of a recognized M.Sc. program in Mathematics, students who have completed, or expect to complete by July 2018, three or four years of a five-year integrated M.Sc. programme in Mathematics with cumulative marks/grade equivalent to a first class are also eligible.
Selection Procedure: Selection will be made on the basis of a written test followed by an interview of short-listed candidates. The written test will be held on September 22, 2018 (Saturday). The test will be of two and a half hours duration and will have questions requiring short answers, primarily in the areas of Analysis and Algebra, but also in other areas of Mathematics covered in undergraduate Mathematics programmes. The written test will be conducted at the following centres: Zone 1: Chandigarh, New Delhi, Srinagar; Zone 2: Allahabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Raipur; Zone 3: Goa, Mumbai, Pune, Vallabh Vidyanagar; Zone 4: Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Kolkata, Ranchi, Shillong; Zone 5: Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad.
Application: Applications on plain paper should be made in the format given in the Notification at www.nbhm.dae.gov.in / www.imsc.res.in.
The filled application must be sent along with a recent passport sized photograph of the applicant affixed to it and a self-addressed envelope, to the Zonal Coordinator of the zone in which the candidate wishes to appear for the written test. Addresses of the zonal coordinators are available in the Notification. The envelope containing the application should be super-scribed ‘NBHM MA/MSc Scholarships’. Applicant should clearly indicate two centres from the zone in which he/she wishes to appear for the test, in order of preference. The addresses of the zonal coordinators for sending the completed applications are given in the Notification. Completed applications should reach the zonal coordinators by July 30, 2018 (Monday).
Hall Ticket for the written test with centre details, will be sent, to reach candidates by August 27, 2018 (Monday). In the event of an eligible applicant not receiving a communication regarding the test by that date, he/she should contact the zonal coordinator to whom the application was sent to find out the status of the application and for appropriate remedial measures.
A hall ticket sent by a zonal coordinator is necessary to appear for the test. In exceptional cases, eligible candidates may be admitted to the test at the discretion of the centre-in-charge of the appropriate centre. For this purpose, the applicant must contact the centre-in-charge suggested by the appropriate zonal coordinator. Information about the test centres and persons-in-charge may be obtained from the zonal coordinator, NBHM website or by contacting the NBHM offce.
