Spain sack Julen as manager for signing deal with Real Madrid
Julen Lopetegui was the most hailed coach for Spain heading to Russia 2018.
Under Julen, Spain had maintained an unbeaten record and was looking good for another World Cup triumph, but unexpected things happened and Spain suffered an anti-climax even before the big football spectacle kicked-off.Julen Lopetegui can now take over Real Madrid much earlier. - Twitter
All happened in a haste. Julen had first signed to a two-year contract with Spain and all of a sudden he opted for the Real Madrid job left vacant by Zideine Zidane.
He was appointed the Real Madrid coach on Tuesday and the Spanish Federation took its revenge by sacking him before Spain’s opening match against Portugal on Friday.
Julen Lopetegui had signed a three-year deal to succeed Zidane with the Champions League holders and the Spanish Federation decided that it was inappropriate for him to continue with Spain.
Federation president Luis Rubiales, who did not attend the FIFA congress in Moscow, announced the decision at the training base for Spain and showed the door to the manager.
It is learnt that Julen’s negotiation with Real Madrid took place without the Spanish FA knowing and hence the harsh decision. The players wanted him to stay but Spanish FA disagreed. - Twitter
Now the FA is left with no time to announce a replacement. The Spanish FA boss hoped that the players take the decision on their stride and do what they are supposed to do at Russia 2018.
According to Radio Marca, Sergio Ramos and Andres Iniesta led a delegation of players to Spanish FA representatives, but there request to reverse the decision to dismiss the coach did not hold any weight. This man will not be seen alongside Spain at Russia 2018. He may be replaced by David Moyes (speculation). - Twitter
Speculation are rife that David Moyes could be the front runner for the job, but everything will be clear before the World Cup begins.
