RTL Group Q1 Net Profit Down 19%; Affirms FY18 Outlook - Quick Facts
RTL Group (AUO.F) reported that its first-quarter net profit attributable to shareholders declined 19 percent to 111 million pounds from 137 million euros in the prior-year quarter, which included a positive on-off amounting to 14 million euros. Earnings per share for the quarter were 0.72 euros, compared to 0.89 euros last year.
EBITDA for the quarter declined 1.9 percent to 259 million euros from 264 million euros a year ago.
The decline in EBITDA was mainly due to losses at the football club Girondins de Bordeaux which increased by 11 million euros and offset higher EBITDA contributions from the TV businesses in Germany, France and the Netherlands. EBITDA margin stood at 18.3 percent compared to 18.8 percent last year.
Group revenue for the quarter rose 0.8 perent to 1.416 billion euros from 1.405 billion euros from 1.432 billion in the prior year.
The company noted that higher revenue contributions from Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and RTL Nederland were partly balanced by negative exchange rate effects amounting to 29 million euros. Underlying revenue rose 2.6 percent.
Looking ahead, RTL Group confirmed its outlook given on March 7, 2018. RTL Group expects its total revenue for the fiscal year 2018 to continue to grow moderately, up 2.5 percent to 5.0 percent, driven by the Group's digital businesses and FremantleMedia.
The company noted that the 2017 EBITDA included a positive one-off effect of 94 million euros from the sale of buildings in Rue Bayard, Paris. Normalized for this effect, RTL Group expects EBITDA in 2018 to be broadly stable, down 1.0 percent to up 1.0 percent.
