Prohibitory orders after attack on CAB 2016 protestors

Guwahati, May 16 (UNI) Following an incident of alleged stone pelting on AASU members
during a protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, in Hailakandi district in
southern Assam, the administration on Wednesday promulgated prohibitory orders in the
district.

"Prohibitory orders under CrPC Section144 has been promulgated to avert untoward
incident that happened when AASU brought out a procession in Hailakandi against the
CAB, 2016, and some miscreants pelted stones injuring some activists," an official source
said here.

Unidentified miscreants had allegedly pelted stones on an All Assam Students Union rally
in Hailakandi on may 14 last, injuring a few AASU members.

Police investigation is on to track down the miscreants.

AASU president Dipankar Nath while condemning the attack on AASU members, said
categorically that such acts would not deter them from registering their protests against
the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
