The Met And Two New Books Invite You To Tour Versailles
Its history - both glorious and scandalous - have been minefields of knowledge for historians, artists, architects, writers, directors ad infinitum. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York opens an exhibit tomorrow April 16 entitled Visitors to Versailles (1672-1789). The museum has dedicated 12 galleries to the exhibit to transport museum goers to 15th century Versailles. The second book is entitled Fashion And Versailles by Laurence Benaim. The book chronicles the styles favored by Versailles royal fashionista Marie Antoinette and its effects on the royal court and how centuries later contemporary designers still reference Versailles and the queen in their collections.
