THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has said that the government must backtrack on its stern stance that they would not hold discussions with the striking doctors.

“Treatment has been denied to thousands of poor patients. These poor patients, who cannot afford private hospitals, are going through hell. The minister who is refusing to hold discussions with the striking doctors is threatening them with disciplinary action. Doctors who have given leadership to the strike have been transferred, and the doctors under probation are threatened with dismissals. This arrogance by the minister would only worsen the situation,” he said.

He also said that forcing new things without taking the doctors into confidence and without arranging for basic facilities led to all the problems.

Chennithala also urged the doctors to cooperate if the government gets ready for a discussion.
