Death of Pranesh Kumar’s father: SIT begins probe

Thuravoor:  The Special Investigation Team (SIT)has begun investigation into the death of 78-year-old Gopinath Pillai, the petitioner in Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case and father of Pranesh Kumar Pillai alias Javed Sheikh.

District police chief S Surendran along with forensic experts visited the spot and conducted inspection.

Police have taken four vehicles into custody in connection with the incident. A mini lorry, tanker lorry, car and a mini lorry of KSDP have been taken into custody.

Chalakudy native Sijeev Pattanakkad, who is the driver of the tanker lorry suspected to have hit the rear of the car involved in the accident, is in police custody.

The car moved into the opposite track after a vehicle rammed into the rear of the vehicle. Forensic experts found paint residues on the rear part of the vehicle.

The visuals from the CCTVs located nearby reveal that eight vehicles passed through the road close to each other at the time of the accident. 

Police are searching for other vehicles that have come on CCTV.

Cherthala DySP, special branch DySP and SIs of Arthunkal, Mararikkulam, Mannancherry and Pattanakkad police stations are in the investigation team. 

Gopinath Pillai died on Friday while undergoing treatment after he was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the National Highway near Vayalar.
