SFA Inter-Academy football league kicks off in Jammu

In the league 22 teams of 20 respective districts are participating under the three age categories of Under-13, 15 and 18 respectively.

The first State Football Academy (SFA) Inter-Academies football league-2017-18 kicked off on Friday at M A Stadium Jammu. The inaugural match was played between, SFA Jammu and SFA Kathua.

It is after the finishing the process of establishing district football units and football learning schools in each district of the State under Mission-22 that SFA has started its first domestic league, SFA Inter-Academies football league-2017-18. The league is going to be played as per the format of Junior I-League of All India Football Federation to groom and harness football talent of the State, SFA statement said.


During inaugural ceremony, Chief Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), Haji Abdul Qayoom was the chief guest while as President Jammu and Kashmir Football Association, Zameer Ahmad Thakur was guest of honour. Amoung others present were former International footballer, Arun Malhotra, besides Surinder Singh Bunty, Ramesh Chander, Fayaz Sofi, and Ashok Singh.

In the league 22 teams of 20 respective districts are participating under the three age categories of Under-13, 15 and 18 respectively.

Teams have been divided into eight clusters and winner of each cluster will play in final round of the league that will be held from May 1.

In the inaugural match, SFA Jammu defeated SFA Kathua by 2-1. The goal scorers from Jammu side were Madhav Sharma and Paras Bassan while as Ritesh Singh was the lone goal scorer from SFA Kathua side.
