NTTF, Saint Gobain conduct convocation
Chennai: “In line with the dream of generating our own workforce, I am delighted to present the diploma certifications and job offer letters to all our students. Maybe in the next 20 years, I want all of them to grow to the extent of heading a production line in our company,” said Saint Gobain Ltd Flat Glass – South Asia president and managing director B Santhanam.
He said this while addressing at the second convocation of Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) and Saint Gobain Ltd’s joint diploma course in manufacturing technology at The Music Academy, Alwarpet today.
Christened as ‘Learn while Earn’, the four-year course is being organised at Saint Gobain Practice School.
“The biggest challenge students face in the industry is lack of practical knowledge. Secondly, due to their poor background, they are not able to carry on their studies as well. So our ‘Learn while Earn’ strives to bridge these gaps. During the first convocation, 53 students graduated from our school out of which 49 are working in our company. This year 28 are graduating in which 24 are going to work with us,” he added.
Explaining about the future course of action, Santhanam, said, “A total of 163 students have been employed by us now. We are planning to add 100 students to our workforce every year. We are also in need of government support for infrastructure scaling up.”
NTTF managing director N Raguraj, said, “Today is the special day for our students as they are stepping into the society. Now they should strive towards achieving perfection in their work environment. The sole aim of starting this initiative is to make production courses link directly with the industry. If there is a medical college, there will also be a hospital. Same way when there is NTTF, there will also be a industry affiliated to it.”
“What our students get is an opportunity to earn while learning this course. That’s not all, they also get their call letters immediately after completing their course. So, at this point, I want like-minded people to get in touch with us for a bright future of their children,” he added.
On the occasion, 28 students received their certificates in diploma in manufacturing technology. Officials from NTTF, Saint Gobain and family members of the students were present.
