Police Arrest One Suspected Illegal Hunter In Meriden, Seek Two More

Hartford Courant 2018-02-13 16:55:00

One day after police arrested a man who they say was illegally hunting in a Meriden park, they asked for the public’s help in finding two other suspected illegal hunters.

Police from the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection arrested Giovanni Carabetta, 22, of 187 Canyon Drive in Meriden Monday at the Troop I barracks of the state police in Bethany, a department spokesman said.

They learned that he had been hunting in the city’s Guiffrida Park — where no hunting is allowed — on Nov. 21 and 22, Chris Collibee said.

The environmental police also learned that two other men were illegally hunting in the park during the same time period and released trail camera photos. They are asking for the public’s help in identifying the additional men, who they described as persons of interests. The men were hunting with Carabetta, who is not cooperating with investigators, he said.

Carabetta was charged with two counts each of third-degree criminal trespass, hunting on private land without permission of the owner and failure to wear 400 square inches of orange while hunting.

He also was charged with one count of interfering with an officer, DEEP said.

He posted $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden Feb. 26.
