Imran Tahir visibly unhappy after being racially abused at the Wanderers
South African cricketer Imran Tahir faced a racial abuse from a spectator during the recently conclude Pink ODI. Over the years, the Pink ODI has been seen as a prime example of how the crowds in South Africa unite for a noble cause and show their harmony. However, this particular incident involving the veteran leggie has brought a bit of an infamy to the game.
During the match which was played at the Wanderers, in Johannesburg, Imran Tahir was seen getting involved in a scuffle with a spectator. As clearly seen in the video, the spectator passed lewd and racial remarks to Tahir during the game. Tahir, who looked visibly unhappy with the remarks, went to the spectator to have a word on the same.
Tahir maintained the decorum by not using any unparliamentary word or action during the scuffle. The Cricket South Africa (CSA) also confirmed the same in their official press release about the incident. Albeit Imran Tahir did not use any cuss word, he did look unhappy with the actions of the spectator. Reportedly, Tahir was quick to report the incident to the security officials at the venue.
The officials were quick to take Tahir along with them to identify the spectator, in order to throw away the spectator out of the stadium. Later, CSA released an official statement about the same wherein they confirmed that Tahir was racially abused during the game. The CSA also condemned such actions made by the spectators and hope that anything of this sort does not repeat again.
It is indeed unfortunate to see such things happening on the cricket field. Furthermore, Imran Tahir has been one of the most well-behaved cricket players on the field. He has also shown great sportsman spirit on the field on numerous occasions. The most recent incident was involving a gesture he showed to Virat Kohli after the first ODI of the ongoing series. Racial discrimination has always been condemned. Recently, R Ashwin had also condemned racial discrimination on social media.
