India wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, whose wicketkeeping style is considered to be neither orthodox nor unorthodox. But many claims it to be a different style which only Dhoni can carry. Every match, Dhoni gives some brilliant sharp examples of wicketkeeping skills and proves why he is the best in this job.
The last ODI between India and South Africa at Johannesburg was another record-breaking contest for Dhoni as he reached 400 dismissals as wicketkeeper in ODIs. He became the first Indian to reach this landmark. Going by this stellar record, India fielding coach R Sridhar hailed Dhoni’s brilliance behind the wickets with his gloves and said it could be a subject of research.
“Dhoni has got his own style, which is so much, so much successful for him. I think we can do research into his style of wicketkeeping and I would like to call it the ‘Mahi-way’. And there are so many things to learn from that and there are so many things which the young keepers may not even be able to contemplate. He is unique in his own way,” Sridhar said on Monday.
"He has got great hands. He has definitely the best glovesman as far as keeping for spinners goes. His hands work at the speed of lightning, for stumpings we all know that. That is something which is very innate to him and great to watch. At the same time, for somebody who doesn’t have that skill, it’s a big challenge to get there,” added Sridhar.
After his achievement in 4th ODI with his wicketkeeping gloves, Dhoni is getting close to another landmark and that is 10,000-run mark in ODIs. He is only 46 runs away from this achievement.
