Bibha Nath and Papri Halder joins BJP
Agartala: Former minister and All India Congress Committee leader Bibha Nath and Lok Janshakti Party state president Papri Halder joined the BJP on Thursday. State BJP president Biplab Deb welcomed them and handed over the BJP flag to them.
Speaking to reporters from the state BJP headquarters, Nath said, "I joined BJP for a number of reasons which include protecting womenfolk in this left-ruled state." Incidentally, Tripura ranks high in crime against women as per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data.
Halder who pledged support to build united struggle against CPI-M led left front of the state, claimed that she had discussed issues with LJP supremo Ramvilas Paswan. She said, "He will be coming to Tripura to campaign against the left."
Speaking on poll alliance prospects with IPFT – a tribal organisation which is demanding Twipraland – separate state for Tripura’s tribal communities, Deb said, "Positive talks were going on with IPFT. BJP central leaders will finally decide on the issue."
